Phoebe Fullbrook (Director)

Phoebe was born and raised in a musical family in North London, and began learning the violin at the age of 5, with Cecily Mendelssohn. As a child, she was a participant on many Stringwise courses, as well as other local music ventures, including Haringey Youth Orchestra and Junior Royal Academy. During this time, she continued her private violin lessons with Sheila Nelson.

After some much-loved years at Camden School for Girls, Phoebe went on to study violin at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, under the direction of Gina McCormack, from where she graduated in 2011 with a First Class honours degree.

Phoebe has since been working as a freelenace violinist and teacher, mostly in London. She is a member of the Orion Orchestra, and has also performed with Britten Sinfonia and Deviation Strings (under direction of BBC 1 Radio DJ – Benji B). As a teacher for Haringey Music Service, Phoebe has taught violin in many schools around the borough, both individually and also for the ‘Wider Opportunities’ programme.

Phoebe is particularly interested in equal opportunities and so, as a keen traveller, she spent 10 months in Uganda (2013-2014), working as a specialist volunteer for Kampala Music School. Here she coached young adult musicians in both their teaching and own playing, and set up outreach projects in two orphanages.

After another teaching term abroad, this time at the Centre of Musical Arts in Dubai, Phoebe has recently returned home to North London, where she is finding thorough enjoyment in helping to develop the next generation of local, budding string players!
