Mary-Lou Graham started working on Stringwise courses when her son was 4 yrs old, and he is now 20! Like most people she started as an assistant tutor and gradually became a strand leader. She have also been known to conduct the ‘Big Piece’ but is really glad Daniel is now doing that. She studied the ‘cello at the RNCM with Raphael Sommer and also teaching with Sheila Nelson which was probably the best decision she ever made as it formed the basis of her future career. She taught for Islington Council for many years as well as several private schools in the area whilst continuing to play professionally in the Orchestra of St John’s Smith Square and other freelance orchestras. She also enjoyed playing in a string quartet for weddings and conferences –including Mick Jagger’s Christmas party! Since moving to Scotland she has continued to teach privately and also conduct a youth orchestra. Last year she held the first Stringwise Scotland course which was great fun. Most of the week she can be found in Haydock Music in Milngavie where she works.
